In this Earth Mate Talk, Katherine and Ruriko talk about their weekends.
- Katherine: Hey Ruriko, how was your weekend?
- Ruriko: Friday night I went bowling with my friends and we hung out at BJ's until late night. And Saturday my husband and I went shopping. I got lucky because we were shopping at a Coach store and my husband found a very nice leather jacket on sale and he bought it for me.
- K: Oh, that's so sweet.
- R: What did you do, Katherine?
- K: I went to my friend's apartment and we went swimming. Although, there really wasn't that much swimming because it was really cold and overcast. We spent most of the time in the hot tub and when we got too hot, we'd jump in the pool.
- R: Oooh! Just listening to it gives me goosebumps! You're young!
- K: I used to be on my swimming club's team and we had to jump in the pool sometimes before 7 am for practice. That was brutal.
- R: Oooh! I don't think I could do it. I'm a night owl.
- K: I think I'm an early bird, but I'd still rather be reading the newspaper and drinking tea instead.
- R: Does it mean that you're getting old?
- K: Hey!
- R: Just kidding. You just finished college last year so you're still a spring chicken.
- K: Oh, thanks.
- R: Oh, you're young too. And pretty too.
- K: Um, what do I say? Do you want to get the American response or the Japanese response?
- R: Ok, let's hear the American response.
- K: I'm American, but sometimes it's hard to be that confident, especially on the talk show.
- R: Just be yourself!
- K: I guess I'm more of a humble person myself, so I'll have to say, “Not really but thank you.” Not really is more humble, but the American side of me has to say thank you and accept the compliment.
- R: Hey Katherine, we have to go because it's time to have dinner. But one more thing, Katherine. Do you like bowling?
- K: Yeah, why?
- R: Because there will be another bowling outing in a few weeks.
- K: Ok, I'll keep my weekend free!
